Green House Facilities
The UK College of Agriculture has over 10,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art glass house plant growth facilities. Housed within this facility are growth chambers, drying ovens, steam sterilizers, and experimental prep areas.
Agroecosystem Mesocosm Facility
The agroecosystem mesocosm facility is currently under construction and when completed will allow us to image the growth and turnover of plant roots in modern agronomic crop production systems. The facility is being set up in order to determine how management practices (no-till, crop rotation or cover-cropping) influence root turnover and rhizosphere processes in low and high P soils; something that is difficult to do in a field setting. Each mesocosm will use a 135 L polyethylene barrel in which a soil profile will be constructed consisting of two horizons using topsoil and subsoil from field sites in KY. Each mesocom will have a rhizotron tube in each horizon for viewing (via a CID Bio-Science CI-600 in-situ root imager) root growth and turnover along with Decagon (now METER) 5TM soil moisture and temperature sensors. The greenhouse will use supplemental lighting using 6 LED LumiGrow 650e (Emeryville, CA) fixtures.
Growth Chamber - Conviron Adaptis A1000 AR-Arabidopsis
Designed for smaller plants such as Arabidopsis, the AR Kit maximizes efficiency by providing two fully-usable growth areas with separate lamp canopies. Its horizontal airflow allows shelves to be loaded to capacity without the worry of obstructing airflow.
Specifications
The rhizolab has two Adaptis 1000s
Specifications
- Two lamp canopies each provide 425 µmoles/m²/s of light
- Growth area of 13.0 ft² (1.2 m²) with growth height of 20" (500mm)
- Perforated back wall plenum
- Uniform horizontal air delivery
- Two adjustable Stainless Steel wire shelves
The rhizolab has two Adaptis 1000s
